Hey, I was wondering about my pet dog and some fleacare tips...?

My dog has a couple fleas and I was wondering if there was any way that I could use some everyday product around the house to get rid of them instead of buying that flea medicine. Please help!

  1. I'm not sure about any home remedy. I used a flea comb which works really well and then got a flea collar. But really your best bet is to just go to the pet store and get some flea meds. Fleas carry diseases to your dog and are very unhealthy.
  2. That would entail you buying a (dangerous) flea spray to spray your house with (every fabric surface) spraying your yard with some spray that you hook onto the water hose to kill the fleas (probably once a week) giving your dog regular baths with shampoo that kills fleas... all in all you'd be spending well over the amount you'd be spending to just buy flea drops, i'd just go with the cheaper and easier way and get flea drops. //edit I can tell you that my mom tried the pouring salt into the carpets and letting them sit for 24hrs and then vaccuuming not too sure if that worked but you could try that.... also spraying the yard with dawn dish soap.... you'd have to buy an attachment for the water hose and dish soap but eh idk... that's just what my mom says ole country bumpkin.
  3. I don't know of any natural remedies off hand (I'm sure they are some!). But personally, I'd rather buy a product especially made for fleas and that is safe to use on pets.
  4. The flea and tick meds such as frontline , sentinnel and such are the best way to continually protect your dog. Spend the money and protect your dog.
  5. dish soap. give him a bath with dish soap. that should kill them
  6. bath your pet more often and fill up your tub and drown the ticks and flees- not the dog please.live the anti-flee shampoo on him for 5 minutes.
  7. you need to treat your dog, your house & your yard if you ever want to rid yourself from them, use one of the better products on your dog ( frontline, advantage ) spray your house & yard with something that has PRECOR in it it will kill all stages of the flea
  8. We use frontline on our dog sometimes. but if we cant get that there is stuff that can be used for kids and pets that my mom gets for our dog that is affordable from avon
  9. The best way is prevention. Go to your vet and get him immunized with a product like Sentinel or Interceptor. It's a monthly product that is either fed via pill or through a vial on the skin at the back of the neck. Easy to administer and not overly expensive. Not only will this deal with the fleas, ticks, etc. but more importantly will deal with Heartworm which is fatal to dogs. In the meantime, if the fleas are still only in the dog, then you can bathe and comb them out. And keep him on the medicine above. However, if they have infested the house, you may have to consider pesticide. If you do go that route, make sure the dog is away for a least 24 hours or more, depending on the product. Consult your vet on this too before proceeding.
  10. - IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE TO CHEMICAL TREATMENTS - Below are websites that will tell you NATURAL ways to control fleas and ticks on dogs and cats. I've seen comments from people who have used Borax & state that this works fine. I also saw comments on lemon soaps and that sounded good. I don't know which detergent is a lemon detergent but that sounded like it had good potential.
