Tick problem on dog... HELP!?

Please, I hope you can help me. When we got our pup about 6 months ago, we treted her with Frontline to kill her fleas & ticks. It was time to give the treatment once again but we coulnt find this specific medicine in any pet store so we got one by the brand Hertz. Now she does'nt have a single flea, but we recently discovered she has been getting more and more ticks, actually, it's been in these last 3 days. The more we get rid off, the more they appear. We have given her baths with a medicated soap (it says it kills ticks & fleas) to see if the problem goes away, but no luck... Is there any other way we can get rid of this pest? Ok, well thanx everyone... I guess the only thing I can do for now is keep cheking her until we get her Frontline... I hope to have it here in the next few days... we've treated her with this ever since she gor here, it was his month we coul'dnt find it so we got the one taht was left (hartz) so she wouldn't be without protection... I guess it was'nt the best move, since she's gotten more and more in the last 3 days, so we won't get it anymore... Thank you all for your help. ^-^

  1. not with Hartz you won't. You need to go back to the vets office and get some more frontline or Advantix or Revolution. I have seen LOTs of dogs and cats become very ill and even die from Hartz so please be careful. As for the baths the shampoos may kill whats on them but will not keep them off, so you need to treat your house and yard when you treat your dog
  2. You will need to apply Frontline Plus on a monthly basis to kill all the fleas & ticks. There are other topical medications such as Revolution and Advantix, but the Hartz medication from the pet store is not reliable. You should be able to order Frontline online, and many pet stores carry it, it's not a prescription item from the vet like heartworm preventative is. (She should be on that monthly also, however.) Your vet will carry reliable flea/tick and heartworm medication. Until you find the Frontline, keep checking her daily for ticks and removing them. The longer they stay attached, the higher the possibility they could transmit Lyme Disease and other tick-borne diseases.
  3. You may need to call your vet and get suggestions from them about the best treatment for your dog.
  4. okay.... the tick population is really high this year so dont worry or think that they are especially attracted her. i use frotline on my dogs and it always works. i order mine at 1800petmeds.com you can order flea and tick meds there!!
  5. You can order your Frontline or Frontline Plus from petedge.com. Great prices and it comes FAST! It's a bad tick season, hope you are able to get it soon. Those ticks carry bad stuff. Good luck.
