Online seller of pet medicine/vetinary medicine WITHOUT PRESCRIPTION? I am looking for an online store ...?
that I can buy pet medicine for my dog-without a vet prescription. My local vet refuses to write a prescription for me to get medicine from the internet. My vet charges a fortune and I can buy the exactly same medicine my doctor needs from the internet for much cheaper. But the problem is...my vet will not give me a prescription because he wants customers to buy the dog medicine from him-not from an internet site. Please help me if you can?!?!?!

- First, check out if what you need IS actually prescription medication. Many things aren't I've found. Check out www.kvvet.com, they have a large non-prescription section. I was amazed to find out a medication for demodex that I though was prescription is NOT!! Frontline is NOT. Capstar is NOT. Heartworm meds are, but guess what, the ingredients to make it are NOT. My other suggestion is to change vets. My vet volunteers writing prescriptions to me! Sometimes I must insist when I need to get a medication quick that she sell it to me. Different vets differ on this, look for one who doesn't mind.
- I was told it was against the law for a vet to refuse to write a prescription. This is of course like say for heart worm meds you need to have had the testing first. A vet refusing to write a prescription would be like a human doctor not writing a needed prescription. Not OK!Some things do not need a prescription.
- there are LOTS of alternatives to drugs, this might be the push you need to look for a substitute. I have found Australian Bush Flower Essences system to be superior or drugs in many cases. I would recommend the book "Animal Healing with Australian Bush Flower Essences" by Marie Matthews http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/AnimalsAustralianBushFlowerEssences/ Google "Animal Healing with Australian Bush Flower Essences" ISBN: 9780958059015 AND if you buy a second book make it "Australian Bush Flower Healing" by Ian White as this book has some things in it's repertory that is not in the above book and it is helpful to have around for people problems too. ISBN-10: 073380053X This group is mostly for people using Australian Bush Flower Essences http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ABFEstudy/ You will save a lot of money IMO and have a much healthier dog
- If your dog is on a prescription medication, then you CAN NOT buy it online without a prescription written by a vet. That would be like asking where you could buy prescription human medication without a doctor's prescription...while I'm sure you could probably find someplace if you look hard enough you should never trust the quality or safety of products like this that are sold illegally. That said, many medications that vets dispense are not prescription medications and you do not actually need a prescription to buy them. And, as someone else has suggested you always have the option of switching vets. If your vet will not work with you, then there is no reason to stick with them. And if you do leave them, I would be sure to let them know that it was their lack of cooperation in this matter and what you perceived as them not being competitive or fair on their prices. Also, be sure that the medicine really IS cheaper online. The mark-up on human medicine made by pharmacies is rediculous. Veterinarians do not have nearly as large a profit margin on the medications they sell and many times once you factor in shipping and/or minimum order requirements it costs the same (or sometimes even more) to order online as it would to buy from your local vet.
- If you are in the UK then your vet has to write you a prescription if you request one. He can not charge for the prescription but he can charge a consultation fee for writing one. The laws have also changed recently, whereas before if one of our clients was on a very expensive drug we would write them a script and they could get it on line or from a local chemist at a greatly reduced cost, now no pharmacy is allowed to dispense human medication for an animal unless there is no alternative. Unfortunately for the clients and the vets this is now out of our control. Veterinary medication although the same as any human equivalent costs at least 3 times as much to buy, to the vet! The vet has to pass that cost on or would go out of business! I'm all for people sourcing cheaper alternatives as long as they remember to have their pet checked every 6 months to make sure they need no changes in dosage, and for people to remember the vet is not trying to rip you off (most of them aren't anyway!) lol, they are simply trying to run a business.
