Do I need health papers for my dog?
I am flying from UT to NC with my dog. I am taking her with me in the cabin. We are flying on US Airlines. I have called 2 times to customer service and both times the agents have told me I do not need any health papers for my dog to fly. However, my vet tells me that almost all airlines require health papers and I should make sure before I leave that I don't need the health papers. Anybody have experience with US Airlines and dogs?

- Your vet is correct. People flying with their pets are usually told they need a health certificate issued within ten days of the travel date. If the airline is telling you you don't need it, call back a few more times! You can never be too sure. I've gotten a LOT of bad information from people who work for airlines. It seems like the right hand never knows what the left and is up to.
- A physical souldn't be a problem.
- Doesn't anyone know what that would be at your vets? Try calling your health department or animal control office and ask what is customary. I should think you would need a rabies certificate or copy and record of the most recent shots. Better safe than sorry. Have a good trip!
- from my experience you need to show proof of vaccinations for any flight. I would bring them just in case. My puppy was shipped via USair when we got him and the breeder had to provide proof he had his shots.
- I would just take the papers with you. It might vary by states and thats why you are getting tow different answers. But just take the papers with you.
- I've helped many rescues either transport via car or via plane, they always get a health certificate from a vet for the animal. If travelling by car, usually the health certificate isn't always necessary. But I personally dropped off 3 Basenjis at Delta to be flown to California...and health certificates were required. Be better safe than sorry and have it handy!
