I have two parakeets and would like to return them. which pet store would buy them back?

Because of my tight schedule can not take care of my two parakeets properly. do not want to give them to a shelter because I read they sell them to labs for new medicine tests and etc. Can anyone tell me which pet store would buy the birds back? Thanks!

  1. You can post them on craigslist and charge an adoption fee, screen who gets them and they will go quickly. best wishes! :)
  2. Try to get rid of them on a radio swap shop I have not heard of any shops buying them
  3. Chances are, unless you go to the store you bought them from, you're out of luck. Maybe a smaller, independent, family owned store would buy them. Advertise them in the paper, or on bulletin boards. Interview potential owners who call you. Are they home much? Have they owned birds before? Are they familiar with the noise and mess? Do they have small children who may get their fingers bitten, if they stick them in the cage to pet the bird? Are there other pets in the home? I breed parakeets, cockatiels, and finches, and have heard many horror stories of the family dog or cat getting the birds. One lady allowed her cat to put it's paws in the cage of the cockatiel, and couldn't understand why the bird bit her when she went to feed it! All of that aside, there are usually a few families that are interested in having them for pets. Don't expect to make back all of the money that you originally spent, you will need to reduce the price some. My policy was that unless a bird died, or seemed sick, I would not reimburse money for a return. I would credit them with a new bird. Sometimes we had people want to return a bird after 6-12 months; in that case, we did not give a refund, but would take the bird back, and then find it a new home. There is a site called Birds 'n' Ways that allows you to post a for sale ad, and they group ads by state. Or try Craigs List, Kijiji.com, or your local newspaper or shoppers guide. If you can post a picture on a flier, or the web sites, people love to see what they're getting. Good Luck
