- call the vet.
- My dog broke a claw, the vet clipped it off, and cleaned it, but it STILL got infected... he'd sit around and lick and lick and lick. He had to go back, go under anesthesia, and have it surgically cleaned up, and the 'bad' part removed. I'd suggest trying to keep it clean with warm water. I would also suggest trying to keep it dry. However, back to the vet is required! Off you go!
- Treat it like you would a wound on a human. Soaking it in Epsom salts might help. Keep using the peroxide. I am surprised your vet didn't tell you to use some form of triple antibiotic ointment too. Keep it clean above all else...and if you know if it worse by tomorrow, go to the vet then. Please don't wait until Monday.
- I would take her back to the vet sooner than Monday. Also, is the dog chewing on it? I strongly recommend you contacting your vet and getting their opinion. They are familiar with your dog and the injury and will be the best to guide you. Plus, phone calls are free.
- Usually this injury takes some time to heal because of the large vein ( I think) that is in dog's nails. Also there are very sensitive nerves in there that make losing/cutting/breaking/chipping a nail VERY painful. I have used styptic powder and super glue before. Clean the nail and area well. Pack the end o the toe nail with styptic powder and let it kind of absorb the new blood for a second. Then put a dob of super glue over the end and hold your dog until it's dry. This kind of seals the powder in and the end of the nail. You do have to be quite careful because you know how fast superglu dries and how it sticks to things! You have to repeat this quite often because it doesn't stay on long if they go on cement or outside in the wet quite a bit. Good luck!
