Frontline Plus + Cat+ Allergic Reaction = ???
well, my 11 month year old cat has fleas. My sister bought Frontline Plus online but it came with this weird tube thing and you could tell it was really Frontline for Dogs. Stupidly, we used it on our cat and she got all itchy and started pulling her fur out, so we washed it off. She's okay now. So, now she still has fleas and now she has to sleep in the garage and she barley gets any attention now. The local pet hospital refuses to give us any cat flea medicine without giving her a $50 check up. i already bought another 100% authentic Frontline Plus for Cats on ebay, because the pet hospital was giving me a lot of trouble. first they said: i could only purchase 2 (i came back in two weeks, because i had to get the money) second: they said i needed someone 18 years or older with me third: they said they cant give me any at all without a checkup. should i just take her to the checkup? i mean, what if she's fine but they lie to me and take all my money? HELP!

- Good question. Just google it. I have found a lot answers for this.
- frontline SUCKS - get advantage for cats - there are 2 types depending on cat's weight................you can order that stuff online - you don't have to get the cat a $50 ck up just to get flea meds - that's nuts
- I just walk into the vets office and buy Advantage. They don't ask me to bring my cat in. Do not give her over the counter flea medication from the store as they can be fatal. Are you positive the Frontline was for dogs. Cats can have a reaction the these flea meds including seizures. It might be wise to take her to the vet for a flea bath. While she is there, use foggers to rid your house of fleas. She has had one reaction to this medication and another could be worse.
- if it's possible, i'd pony up and pay for an exam. even though it was dog frontline the first time, it's the same thing as a cat one, just at a slightly stronger dosage. if she had a reaction to it once already, she may have another one if it's used again..and that's something you should mention to the vet. added bonus: if you get it thru a vet (and not online thru petmeds or ebay or wherever) the manufacturer guarantees it to work. they will generally pay for additional treatments if it fails, but only if it's bought thru a vet. however, i'd be more likely to recommend revolution (and maybe advantage as a second option) for flea treatment, especially if you kitty goes outside. as for their reasoning, the vet needs to do an exam before giving you the meds because: 1. they need to make sure she's healthy enough to get it 2. she really has fleas and needs it 3. that she doesn't have anything else going on like a secondary bacterial skin infection that may need antibiotics too. they can't give you the meds because it's prescription, and some places require it only be given to someone over 18. you wouldn't call up a doctor you've never been to and expect them to give you a prescription...vets aren't going to be any different. so don't get angry with them when they just need to have a patient history before doing out medicine. so yeah, i'd suggest bringing her in to be looked over, especially since she's already had one reaction to it. that's a bit high for an exam fee, though, so you may be able to find someone cheaper if you check around and call some other clinics. (your local animal shelter may know of some low-cost clinics so call them and ask, too.) vets aren't really in the business just to take people's money - they have the animal's best interest at heart and will do whatever they can to help the animal stay healthy and the owner happy. they know a happy owner is a returning customer. :-)
- Don't give up! No, you do not need a check up to use flea products ( your vet is being a jerk ). I see this kind of stuff at my job all the time! Use Advantage for cats ( really it is the safest and best ). Call your local pet stores cause some of them carry it! ( Pet Supply Plus does if you have one in your area ). DO NOT use the cheap ones like Hartz or Biospot! DO NOT use any with tick repellent, and DO NOT use any for dogs!!!! We see cats weekly where I work who have violent reactions ( seizures ) and it is very expensive to save your cat once it has a bad reaction!
- Frontline is poison, for one thing. Read up on natural stuff for prevention of fleas and parasites. My dog&cat have no fleas and ther food is higher quality than what most humans put in their bodies. First you have to de-flea your home, non-poison stuff for that too. I'll send you a book for free if you want. Don't panic about the vet's advice or condemnation. Find a vet who is educated in more than drugs and vaccines, someone who lives a healthy holistic lifestyle themselves and knows a lot more than us.
- Ahh i see you may be living in a country where these products are illegal to buy over the counter. In australia you can get all of these products over the counter. Some pets do have reactions to different products so you need to use the one that suits you. Revolution & Advocate both so fleas and all your worming except for tapeworm. I highly recommend either of these products for cats. They work much more effectivly also.
