- talk to a vet.
- The puppy should be fine but you need to stop breeding those dogs. apparently they are not top quality and should not be bred. Just because AKC recognizes your dogs as a specific breed dose not mean they are good enough to reproduce. Only top quality show dogs that have proven the meet all breed standards should be bred.
- Bad genes in that particular cross. The bob tail in itself probably won't affect the puppy, but it might have other genetic problems. I wouldn't breed that particular sire and dam to one another again, just in case.
- The little angel should be fine. Just please, end the breeding. There are more than enough puppies out there, without so called flaws, that are in need of loving forever homes. Please don't continue to be a backyard breeder.. No one is truly aware of the puppy mills tucked everywhere, that use their animals without care or regard. Some of their stock never get to see the light of day. They even use those adorable angels that were listed as "free to good home" - Whats the price of a puppy mill puppy? The life of its parents! I am sure your angels are loved, cared for, and positively beautiful!
- I have had this happen before with my cockers. Turned out that I didn't notice any problems until 3 weeks of age. That is when I noticed that she had poop coming from her vagina instead of her anus. She had to be put down because she had a condition called Atresia Ani. This is a congenital defect. The same pair bred later and had healthy pups as was the rest of the pups from this litter. The vet (my boss) told me to always beware when I have a pup born with a segmented tail as that will always mean trouble. Just pay really close attention to his one to look for problems. Is it male or female? I was told that they are almost always female. Good Luck
- One of my friends breed dachshunds and she had one pup born with a bob tail. The pup was fine no problems. It was a large litter and her tail had the blood supply cut off it it so the part that was crimped died and came off. The dog was born with about 3 inches of tail and has been fine and still doing fine. She was not a show quality pup but had no other problems.
