Cheap Pet Medicine Knowledge Base
Cheap website for pet medicines? I am trying to reorder flea medicine and heart worm preventative for my dog. I usually buy it from the vet but my mom told me that there are some websites that are cheaper and send it to your house. I know one is 1800PetMeds. Do you know of any others? Can they be trusted?
Why do people think its a good idea to get a cheap pet? If you are looking for a pet, and have limited finances, then maybe getting a pet is not a good idea. How are you going to pay for the prevenative medicine and maintenance? What if they become ill? If you just dont want to spend a lot of money on a pet, than why not just adopt one of the many needy ones? Sorry, but this frustrates me.
Online seller of pet medicine/vetinary medicine WITHOUT PRESCRIPTION? I am looking for an online store ...? that I can buy pet medicine for my dog-without a vet prescription. My local vet refuses to write a prescription for me to get medicine from the internet. My vet charges a fortune and I can buy the exactly same medicine my doctor needs from the internet for much cheaper. But the problem is...my vet will not give me a prescription because he wants customers to buy the dog medicine from him-not from an internet site. Please help me if you can?!?!?!
Whats a good website for my Pets? I have heard of some good sites through www.thenaturalselection.info/archive.html They seem to be pretty good... Also Where can I get prescriptions for my pets, medicines for my pets? Cheap products for my pets? How to train my pets?
Have you ever used OTC flea medicine for cats in the past? I've reading on this site all the adverse reactions from flea medication for pets: http://www.elversonpuzzle.com/biospotlettersv7.html and ALL flea medicine has adverse reactions even Frontline and Revolution. Other things I've noted is that most adverse reactions happen to dogs by 2 or 3 to 1. Now I've just bought my kitten Zodiac Flea and Tick medicine for cats and Kittens but after reading everything, I felt bad for trying to be cheap and my brain was conjuring all these bad images even though the kitten seem ok and washed it off. Now I'm pissed that I let these stories get to me. So here's the question, we all know generally that Frontline, Revolution and most meds you get from Vets work fine. I've used Frontline myself and aside from it wearing off early, didn't seem to have much adverse affect on my cat. But these OTC's can't ALL be that bad, can they. Otherwise, with the thousands if not millions they sell, they would have an epidemic upon release to the public. Now I don't want to risk my kittens lives either but if a OTC does work, I think we should support it and not just ASSUME all OTC's are fatal for pets. Otherwise Frontline and Revolution will be the only products on the market. It's the OTC's that keep the pet medicine market low. Anyways, enough of my rant. Here's the Question: Have you ever used an OTC flea medication before and what happen, good or bad. Let's see the percentage at least among this group who've had good or bad reaction. Please only list your own pet, use and experience and not what you have heard. Thank you. Important, please list what brand as well. I think we can all agree that Hartz is horrible for pets. That I won't dispute. I've never used it myself but there are enough reports on Hartz to convince me not to experiment with it.

Did anyone try it? Or is there a better one? I don't mind spending a lot of money on it, as long as it works! Thanx for help

Why is my cat not gaining weight? Tazz is around 13. Everyone comments on how skinny he is and that you can see his bones. About a year ago I moved out of my parents house, and at the same time they started putting him outdoors because he would poop inside on the carpet. He spent one winter outside and he was just about to go through his second, when I took him in for some company. The first week, he was still pooping and even peeing on my bath mats. He started throwing up when I fed him, even places where he sleeps. I didn't realize until then that he most likely still had worms, and my cheap parents had never treated him. The cat does not like it when I pet him in certain spots, let alone try to pick him up to hold him. He still growls constantly and even tries biting me if I pet the wrong spot. I got him some de-worming medicine from a pet store, and it seemed to be working. He wasn't pooping and peeing on the floor, but he hasnt gained any weight back. What should I do? I have no money for the vet!
Hypo-allergic dogs? I am allergic to both cats and dogs, if I pet either without taking my medicine, my eyes get red and puffy and my asthma flares up (I'm a mess, ha ha). I have always had a family dog in my life, sometimes two, but it has only recently become a problem. What are some types of dogs that most people arn't allergic to? I know poodles are hypo-allergic, but my parents don't want a poodle. Thanks! (also, dogs that are fairly cheap, and common)

my 12 week old chihuahua has a fever and is throwing up?? HELP!! my 12 week and 3 day old chihuahua has vomited once today, twice yesterday and once the day before that.. it looked like her treats wer in her vomit, so i stopped giving her the treats.. today it looked like her wet food was in her vomit, so i stopped that too and have just been giving her crunchies.. anyway, her last vomit was about 6 hours ago and she's not active lethargic or anything like that, but her little head is very warm.. hot even.. we do have a night clinic open but they are going to charge me $50 to even look at her plus whatever medicine she needs or whatever.. if i wait until tomorrow, i can take her to the local pet hospital that's right by my house and have her checked out for $35 and the vet there is very nice and will help out your animal for very cheap if he knows you can't afford it, which i really can't afford a super lot of money right now!! should i wait until the morning to take her in?? or should i take her in now?? how serious is the little fever?? oops, i meant she's not acting lethargic.. she's already had her first shots and is eating and drinking fine.. she is active and playful too.. that's why i am shocked that she's been throwing up because she seems to be okay!! chill out bro, i can afford the 50 bucks.. i CAN pay for more than that if i want, i just don't really want to if i don't have to!!!! duhhh who does?? i have no problem taking her to the vet if need be.. i am up on all of her shots and she is probably treated better than you are by your own family!!
Choosing a vet- Today Show? Did anyone see the Today Show this morning? They had a segment on choosing your vet. Dr, Louise Murray has written a book called "Vet Confidential." She made some very good points about interviewing your vet to be sure that they are practicing high quality medicine. I thought it was a great segment because I find that most pet owners think that all vets are alike. The worst is when someone does not understand why a $200 spay is better than a $50...often the cheaper places don't use balanced anesthesia or monitoring. Did anyone else see this? Here is a link to the info on the Today Show's website. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25413634/ What do you think? Does Dr. Murray do a good job explaining? Do you agree? Actually, most vets are vets because they love animals. The pay is crap and the hours are brutal. I work 60-80 hours per week and make about $12-19/hr when you break it down: I could make more managing a Walmart. Vets generally don't actually make money on s/n surgery: it is a loss leader. And most vets do a surprising amount of pro-bono work for the HES because they are so committed to the animal population. If your vet is the cheapest in town he is either not paying his staff enough money to live on and/or cutting corners. The average person does not see what happens in the back: bare handed surgery, injectable only anesthetics. My point was not to choose the most expensive vet, the point was not to use price at all to make your decision. Jade-O, what is the "pool water" thing mean? Do you think that that protects against heartworms? If your "cheap" vet told you that, it is worth what you paid, zilch. You are lucky that your dog did not get heartworms. I am not a "regular" vet: I am exclusively emergency medicine. I see the f-ups from other clinics. I had a heartworm positive dog in yesterday...heart failure. Now that dog is dying from a cheaply prevented disease. No amount o pool water would have stopped that dog from getting heartworms and to think that is ludicrous. TKS- Injectable only general anesthesia is below the standard of care and boarders on malpractice, unless you are employing local blocks or epidurals and intubation. Most practitioners that use injectable only do neither of these things. Pets are developing organ failure 5-7 years later due to poor blood pressure during these surgeries...that is if they make it through the surgery. Just because the animal made it through anesthesia does not make it a successful anesthesia. Dr. Murray, Thank you for responding. I also started a thread about this on VIN and one of your internmates as well as an intern that you had supervised responded about how amazing you are. Thanks for writing your book and I hope that it reaches many people. When I see the quality of care at several local clinics (both ones that I have had the misfortune of reliefing for and those that I have to "fix" in the e-clinic), I wish that there was a body of work that defined standards of care as there are in human medicine. I really worry about the clients and patients of these clinics.
